Lose weight—and every pound counts

In recent interviews with NPR and the New York Times Dr. Marisa Weiss has discussed lifestyle changes she’s made to prevent a recurrence of cancer. Chief among them has been losing weight.  She tells NPR’s Terry Gross that she’s lost 13 pounds since her diagnosis and that, even though she was far from obese, every extra pound counts, because “extra fat makes extra hormones, and the chemicals in the environment that act like estrogen dissolve in fat.”
