Turmeric and Menopause Relief

Research shows certain spices do more than taste good

June 17, 2010

Even if you're not a fan of curry, menopausal women taking synthetic hormones might just love curcumin, a spice used in south Asian cuisine.

Why?

Studies have shown that postmenopausal women who have taken a combined Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) of estrogen and progestin have a higher risk of getting a certain kind of breast tumor.

But a recent study from the National Institutes of Health has found that the spice appears to delay or ward off the effects of the hormones.

Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory and has long been looked at for its effect on treating heart disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
