You know the feeling. You wake up after eight hours of sleep and you're still exhausted.
You slug through the day chugging coffee, but it's not really helping. You even reach for a chocolate doughnut, but that's not exactly giving you a boost.
A 45-minute session with your trainer is torture. In fact, you leave your workout feeling super drained.
Of course, you should always check with your doc if you're feeling this way. Once you rule out medical conditions, you might want to focus on energy work.
Yes, there are ways to improve your energy – and other ways to revamp it entirely.
Vickie Emanuele is an amazing energy expert who has simple techniques for women over 45 to feel their old vibrant selves again.
I asked Vickie: How do you know if your energy levels are low?
"You don't look good. You don't really feel good," she says. "You don't look vibrant. People ask you, 'Are you feeling well?'" says Vickie.
"Maybe you feel blue. Life doesn't matter. There is no passion. Nothing excites you," she says. "You just don't enjoy things the way you used to enjoy them."
Again, first go to your doc and determine that nothing physically is wrong.

A WORD ABOUT ENERGY
Vickie explains that each of us have a unique energy zone. "It's very important to take care of the energy in your energy field," she says. "Your energy can become very stagnant, which is a problem."
Think of it another way.
"You know that feeling you have when someone is standing too close to you. It feels uncomfortable because they're in your energy zone," she says.
She adds, "Remember that every action, every thought and every word affects your energy."
IMPROVING YOUR ENERGY TODAY
I asked Vickie for specific tips for women over 45 who want to have more energy. Her answers might surprise you.
*Cut Down On the Intensity of Your Exercise. Vickie says that as we age, it's crucial to exercise smarter. "You need more moderate exercise such as yoga and walking. If you're still doing the intense exercises you might be over exercising your body and depleting your energy," Vickie says. "Slow it down a notch. Something like kickboxing after 45 might actually drain you.
"Listen to your body and don't push it," Vickie advises. "Or make sure to take more breaks when doing intense exercises."
*Open Up to Your Passions. "What drains people of energy is constantly doing something for everyone else at the expense of their own needs," Vickie says. "This is a huge expense of energy."
It's not that you should stop helping family and friends. But you need to build in some "you time."
"What restores your energy is doing something you're passionate about for a change," Vickie says. "Read a book, sit outside, garden, or go on a trip. Do anything that you're passionate about because it will excite you and restore your body at the same time."
*Check Your Hormones. "At this age, your hormones might be off or you might need supplements," Vickie says. "Go for a thyroid check. If your thyroid is off even a tiny bit it will throw your energy off tremendously. It can also make you moody and depressed. So, get your hormones checked out."
*Get Some Sun. She doesn't want you to bake, but sunlight is a great energy booster. "Sunshine gives you instant energy plus Vitamin D," says Vickie. "Spend 15 to 20 minutes in the sun. Remember sun equals happy." If you live in a cold weather, gloomy place, you can buy special lights for your home that simulate sunlight. "Most people are also Vitamin D deficient, so get your levels checked out by your doctor."
*Nature is Your Friend. "Feeling tired? Here's a quick fix. Go outside," Vickie says. "If you can go barefoot and walk around in the grass or in the sand. Go to the ocean or in the woods and hike. Nature is rejuvenating and clears your energy."
*Try An Energy Exercise. "This is a wonderful way to balance your right and left sides," says Vickie. "Take your finger and point it to a part of your body. Start tracing figure eights. You can do them side to side, too. Do this around your midsection. Go from your feet up.
"This is a balancing exercise," says Vickie. "You will feel differently instantly."
*Learn to Meditate. So many people are confused when it comes to meditation, but it's not that complicated and it restores your energy while de-stressing you.
"Buy a guided meditation tape and do it every other day," Vickie advises. "It's a great way to shut off your brain and get rid of your stress. Your stress is zapping your energy."
*Learn to Say One Word. "Learn to say 'no,'" Vickie insists. "Check in with your heart and develop boundaries in your life. Overachieving in every aspect of life is draining. You have to think about your priorities and say 'no' to what's not important or when you're doing too much."
She adds that guilt is a major energy zapper.
"Remember that you can't control others. You can't control situations. You can control your own actions," she says. "You can control your stress levels if you're aware of what's stressing you out."
