If you suffer from IBS or chronic constipation, you've got (new) options.

For people with IBS and chronic constipation, the usual cures, like eating more fiber, drinking more water and exercising, usually aren't enough to get things moving. So if you're one of those people you should be happy to hear that the FDA just approved a brand new drug for chronic constipation.

Linaclotide, which will be sold under the brand name Linzess, works by stimulating secretions in the intestines that help move things along in your bowels. You can learn more about the drug's effectiveness by reading this New England Journal of Medicine report on its clinical trials. The New York Times reports that the drug should be available by the end of the year.

I have had problems with IBS for years. In July I started having episodes of diarrhea and vomiting. This has continued intermittely for two months. I have been thru a number of test which have all been negative, Thank God. My last will be the Colonoscopy and I don't want anything to be wrong but would like to know what has caused those episodes. My doctor says it is IBS and he is probably right. He has prescribed me two meds but what gets to me is the side affects. I also have Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue and for instance......the meds cause dry mouth, constipation and others. Are we better off to fight and endure the pain or should we take the meds? There doesn't seem to be any answers.
